Storage

File storage is limited via quotas for each user. This is to ensure that no single user can fill up the disks adversely affecting other users.

User storage is set up slightly differently depending on which cluster who are using.

Astute Cluster (enhpc)

The storage on the Astute Cluster is divided into two types:

  • Home filestore
  • Lustre Parallel filstore

Home Filestore

The home filestore contains your home folder (the folder you are in when you log in). This is a relatively small disk that is intended to store your important files (e.g. source code or other files that cannot be regenerated if lost).

The default quota on this disk is 10Gb.

Lustre Parallel Filestore

The Lustre filestore is a high-performance parallel filesystem with a much larger capacity. This filestore is designed to store the larger data files used in parallel computations. This filestore can be accessed via a link in your home folder called ‘lustre’.

This filestore is not backed up.

The default quota on this disk is 100Gb – although this can be increased by contacting j.w.jones@swansea.ac.uk.

Impact Cluster (engimpact)

Unlike the Astute Cluster, the Impact Cluster has one type of file storage – a Lustre Parallel filestore. The Lustre filesystem is a high-performance filesystem designed to be accessed by many processes at the same time.

The default quota on this disk is 100Gb – although this can be increased by contacting j.w.jones@swansea.ac.uk.
